Bodø pianist Dimitris Kostopoulos was born in 1984, and is one of the foremost pianists of his generation in Norway. K
ostopoulos has a master’s degree in piano from the Barratt Due Institute of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music, where he studied under the Czech Professor Jiri Hlinka.
In addition, he has participated in master classes with Professor Marcel Baudet, Professor Einar Steen-Nøkleberg and Professor Hans Pålsson. Kostopoulos has also studied the work of Dorothy Taubman and Edna Golandsky through the Taubman Techniques.
In autumn 2006, Kostopoulos came third in the Concours Grieg in Oslo. He also received a special award for the best interpretation of a work by Edvard Grieg. In 2003, he was a finalist in the Rudolf Firkusny International Piano competition. In summer 2009, he was one of 20 pianists to qualify for the Top of the World International Piano Competition. In summer 2015, he came third in Italy’s Citta di Padova chamber music competition, together with his duo partner the violist Lazar Miletic.
Dimitris has made his mark on Norwegian musical life through a series of engagements at multiple Norwegian festivals and concert venues.
These include the Bergen International Festival, the ULTIMA
Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, the St. Olav Festival, Vestfoldfestspillene, the Oslo Grieg Festival, Hemsingfestivalen, Nordland Musikkfestuke, Oslo Culture Night, the Norwegian National Ballet, the Northern Lights Music Festival, Oslo Concert Hall and the Norwegian National Opera.
As a soloist, Kostopoulos has played with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Tromsø Chamber Orchestra, Oslo Camerata, MiNensemblet, the Barratt Due Symphony Orchestra, Banda Sinfonica da PSP, Bodø Sinfonietta, Narvik byorkester and Divisjonsmusikken in Harstad, as well as having worked with conductors such as Bjarte Engeseth, Arvid Engegård, Stephan Barratt-Due, Pierre-André Valade, Jonathan Stockhammer, Torodd Wigum, Alf Richard
Kraggerud, Terje Boye Hansen, Jan Ludvig Jacobsen and Nicolas Carthy.
Additionally, Kostopoulos has worked extensively as a chamber musician in recent years, and has collaborated with outstanding musicians such as Catharina Chen, Guro Kleven Hagen, Audun Sandvik, Bjarne Magnus Jensen, Ragnhild Hemsing, Eldbjørg Hemsing, Cathrine Bullock, Ingebjørg Kosmo,
Angelica Voje, Christian Mortensen, and many more.
Kostopoulos is the pianist in the MiNensemblet ensemble based at Music in Nordland. He has held this position since the autumn of 2011.
